2026 Acura RSX: Electric SUV Honda to Challenge Tesla Model Y

Though Honda has been sluggish to join the market for electric cars, it is now making progress. Honda will begin a tech-heavy alliance with Sony in 2026, then introduce a flagship sedan derived on the remarkable 0 Series Saloon prototype. But the focus is now on Honda’s forthcoming electric vehicle, the 2026 Acura RSX, which is scheduled to take front stage at the end of this year.

2026 Acura RSX: First Model on Honda’s Internal EV Platform

Honda said on Wednesday that a new, in-house platform would be used to build its next-generation electric cars. Designed by Honda’s premium brand, the Acura RSX will be the first car to premiere on this platform. Although the 2026 Acura RSX has official name now, it shares traits with the already displayed Acura Performance EV Concept. The 2026 Acura RSX designation pays homage to the fourth-generation Integra, a U.S. product from the 2000s.

Coupe-Style SUV: Design and Features

From the teaser picture Honda unveiled, we can observe the actual RSX keeps some design aspects from the concept. Comparatively to the Tesla Model Y and the Ford Mustang Mach-E, it boasts a fastback roofline and silhouette. This gives the RSX an unusual SUV design based on coupe styling.

The angular groove of the driver-side door of the car most likely serves as an air vent. Additionally included in the RSX are flush door handles, which are probably going to pop out upon car unlocking. The vehicle’s rear features a full-width light bar and an upside-down hatch cover, which modernise the design.

Charging Port and Harmony with Tesla Superchargers

Fascinatingly, the RSX’s charging port is found on front left fender. Unlike other companies that have relocated their connectors to the back left to streamline the usage of Tesla Superchargers, this arrangement sets apart. Starting in 2025, Honda also said that its electric vehicles—including the RSX—would be fitted with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector, therefore allowing them to use Tesla’s Supercharger network. Spring 2025 adapters for Acura and Honda EV customers will also be available to enable Tesla Superchargers.

Features and Guidelines Stay Under Wraps

Acura has not yet disclosed particulars on the RSX’s price, range, battery capacity, or charge times. Honda has said, meanwhile, that the RSX will be the first of its entirely in-house produced electric vehicles. Along with Honda’s new operating system, Asimo OS, which will control entertainment and automated driving capabilities, the model will have Honda guarantees that the RSX will be easily updatable, so it will remain current with the newest technologies throughout time.

Growing Electric Vehicle Portfolio of Honda

Honda presents two electric cars for the United States right now: the Acura ZDX and the Honda Prologue. Both variants draw on General Motors’ “Ultium” battery platform. On Honda’s own EV platform, though, the 2026 Acura RSX will be the first car constructed. For Honda, this represents a major change as it keeps growing and adding more electric cars to its portfolio.

Timeline for Production and Release

Late 2025 at Honda’s EV Hub in Ohio will see the Acura RSX put into production. Early 2026 will then find the model accessible to consumers. The popularity of the Honda Prologue suggests that American demand for electric cars from reputable Japanese manufacturers is really high. Comprising Honda’s expanding array of electric vehicles, the RSX is likely to satisfy demand and draw attention in the cutthroat electric vehicle sector.
